The book Number the Stars focuses on the issue of the Holocaust. The main character Annemarie Johansen goes on many adventures while on the run from the Nazis. Annemarie herself isn't Jewish, but her neighbor and good friend Ellen Rosen is, so the Johansen family tries to lead the Rosen's to safety. They get very close to being caught, but the Johansen's pull away with success. The book ends with the Rosen's on a boat to Sweden, where they will be safe from the Nazis. Annemarie will miss her friend very much, but she is relieved that Ellen is safe at last. I believe that this book is still relevant today because it teaches the importance of friendship during difficult times. For example, in Chapter 5, Annemarie helps get the necklace off of Ellen so that they will not be seen in the closet while the soldiers are in the house. That shows that friends should help each other in tough situations.

In the book Number the Stars, Annemarie Johansen and her family live in Denmark at the start of the Holocaust. Annemarie's neighbor and friend Ellen Rosen is Jewish herself, so they must find a way to protect the Rosen's from the Nazis. They go on many adventures along the way, with danger lurking around each corner. They eventually get to a farm, and with the Nazi soldiers approaching, Annemarie's Mom takes the Rosens to her Uncle Henrik, who has a boat. The soldiers try to search the boat, but with quick thinking, Uncle Henrik hides the family under a floorboard. They escape lucky, and still remain untaken by the Germans. However, they forgot something. It was a packet that Peter gave them, but they accidentally dropped it while they were rushing out. Annemarie was told to run down to the harbor and give it to them quickly, and she meets her goal. The book is about the persecution of the Jewish, or the Holocaust. Many of the Jewish are still persecuted today. One example is the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Palestinians believe that part of Israel's territory was originally their's. However, that territory was unclaimed when Israel was created. Israels main purpose was to give the Jewish a safe place to call home.
The book I am currently reading, Number the Stars, takes place in Denmark at the start of the Holocaust. Annemarie and her family live in an area where the population is primarily Jewish. They noticed that some of the families were missing and the shops near her house were closed, and also had swastikas on the front of the stores. This book talks about the Holocaust, a major real-life event. Annemarie's view on the conflict is like almost every Jewish person in the vicinity of Germany: a tragic event that needed to be stopped. In the book, the family ran away from their city to escape the risk of being taken by the Nazis. Also, in real life, people would flee from their city or country to get away from this horrible event.

I'm the type of person who will keep you entertained. I also am the type of person that will turn a bad situation into a good one really fast. I'm also the person who will come up with various solutions to a problem.
Pollution is a growing problem in Raleigh. For every mile of highway there is around 16,000 pieces of litter. Along with that, every piece of litter costs an average of 30 cents to pick up. Tourism and land value also decrease because of litter. To decrease or eliminate the outcomes of littering, there are many things we could do. One of them is to have a certain requirement of the amount of litter to pick up. Another is to fine someone a certain amount of money based on the item and/or size.
Poverty is one of the biggest problems for the Greater-Raleigh area. In 2000, the poor population was 66,177. However, between 2007 and 2010, the average poor population was 130,242. In that time, the poor population grew by 97%. It is tied in 3rd place with Charlotte for fastest growing poverty rate in the United States. We should be concerned about this issue because in the future, you or someone you know could be in this situation. We could combat this uprising issue by making more shelters, help with money/financial dilemmas, or by meeting with the victims and discussing solutions to get out of hole of poverty.
During the American Industrial Revolution, the total population increased by a lot. This is so because of all of the economic opportunities in this great land. Many of the immigrants who relocated here were often low on funds, and they wanted to get back off of their feet. They believed that with all of the inventions being created there, they could get in on the action and get rich.
